The Whale emerges from Norway’s northern coastline

On Norway’s northern coast, The Whale is taking shape as a museum that appears to emerge directly from the landscape. Designed by Dorte Mandrup, its sweeping concrete roof evokes a whale surfacing or diving into the North Atlantic, while local stone helps anchor the structure to its rugged setting. Beneath the curved shell, a column-free interior will combine science, art, sound and storytelling to explore whales and their marine environment. The walkable roof extends the experience outdoors, transforming the building itself into a viewpoint across the surrounding archipelago.
